Laser sintering of thick-film conductors for microelectronic applications

چکیده
This paper investigates fabrication of functional thick metal films using simultaneous laser sintering and patterning along with the fundamental physical phenomena that govern the laser sintering process. The effects of the processing parameters on the quality of the fabricated components are investigated through a heat transfer analysis. We show that our process has potentials for metallization of microelectronics directly onto substrates whose melting temperatures are much lower than the temperature needed for sintering, which is only possible by properly controlling the temperature field during laser sintering. Optimum properties of the fabricated components are obtained when certain thermal conditions are produced during laser heating. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.2433711

متن کاملThick films of ceramic, superconducting, and electro-ceramic materials*
The use of thick films becomes more and more important in particular for electronic and microelectronic applications. The term “thick film” does not relate so much to the thickness of the film but more to the kind of deposition. Thick films are made by low-priced processes such as doctor (dr) blading, screen-printing, or spraying methods, etc. The preparation of thick films of ceramic material ...
متن کاملLow Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) Technology: General Processing Aspects and Fabrication of 3-D Structures for Micro-fluidic Devices
LTCC technology is based on sintering of multi-layered thick-film sheets (50-250μm) or so-called green tapes, which are screen-printed with thick-film pastes such as conductors, resistors, etc. The terms low temperature and co-fired originate from the relatively low sintering temperatures (<900°C) compared to conventional ceramics and simultaneous firing of tapes together with screen-printed th...
متن کاملEffects of High Voltage Pulse Trimming on Structural Properties of Thick-Film Resistors
Nowadays, compact and reliable electronic devices including up-to-date ceramic micro-electro-mechanical systems require thick-film resistors with significantly reduced dimensions and stable and precise resistance values. For that reason, instead of standard laser trimming method, high voltage pulse trimming of thick-film resistors is being introduced. This method allows controlled and reliable ...
متن کاملLOW-TEMPERATURE SINTERING OF HIGH VOLTAGE GRADIENT ZnO-BASED THICK FILM VARISTORS
High voltage gradient ZnO-based thick film varistors were fabricated by low-temperature sintering. The effect of sintering temperature on electrical properties of thick film varistors was investigated. The voltage gradient of thick film varistors increased significantly to 3159.4 V/mm after sintering at 725°C for 30 min. The small average grain size with good grain boundaries was the origin for...
